Michael Edwards
Chief Technology Officer
Michael Edwards is the Chief Technology Officer for Raytheon Australia.
He is responsible for the company’s technology functions including engineering, technical services, information technology, system and cyber security, quality and mission assurance.
Between 2019 and 2022 Michael worked closely with the Managing Director and the Head of Strategy supporting strategy development, communication, implementation, reporting and corporate initiatives.
Previously, Michael was the Engineering Director for the Shipbuilding Product Line and the Principal Engineer within the AWD Alliance, that being the head of the Authorised Engineering Organisation for the production and sustainment of the RAN’s Hobart Class DDGs.
Since joining Raytheon Australia in 2007, Michael has been responsible within the AWD Alliance for the design certification of the Combat System and its associated shore-based support systems (Command Team Trainer, Through Life Support Facility and Part-Task Trainers). Michael has also assisted with other endeavours across Raytheon Australia including technical leadership and systems architecture for proposals including the AIR 9000 Phase 7 Helicopter Aircrew Training System and the Woomera Test Range (AIR 3024).
Before joining the business, Michael had extensive experience across engineering leadership, management and design associated with large defence projects. This included consulting to Defence on naval aviation programs and as the ADI/Thales Australia Corporate Chief Engineer – Systems, and Chief Engineer for the Naval Business Unit.
His professional experience has encompassed Design Authority for the combat system upgrade of the RAN’s FFGs, design and acceptance of the RAN’s Hydrographic Survey System, various development projects for active and passive towed arrays, design for the Integrated Survey and Inspection System for RCN’s Kingston class coastal defence vessels, and integration design for the original combat system of the Collins class submarines.
Michael is a Chartered Professional Engineer, Engineering Executive and Fellow of the Institution of Engineers Australia. He has previously held Master Project Director status with the AIPM. Michael was recognised as an Engineering Fellow of Raytheon Company in 2009 and a Principal Engineering Fellow in 2016. Michael is a Raytheon Certified Architect. Michael holds a PhD in Systems Engineering research, an MBA in Technology Management, a Master of Engineering Science in Communications and a Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering.
