Building Project Management capability with our PM Academy
Creating the next generation of defence industry program management professionals
Raytheon Australia is raising the bar with its Program Management (PM) Academy, a career development initiative aimed at honing the skills of aspiring leaders.
The newest element to Raytheon Australia’s career development offering, the PM Academy is demonstrating the company’s commitment to investing in the ongoing professional development of its world-class team.
The initiative is focused on supporting talent and ultimately growing Raytheon Australia’s pipeline of program and project managers through a combination of structured training and on-the-job experience. Each participant has also been paired with a mentor who will provide ongoing guidance and support throughout their journey.
David Kennedy, a member of the inaugural cohort, looks forward to capitalising on the PM Academy's learning opportunities. "We have a unique chance to gain insights into Raytheon Australia’s leading-edge capabilities," Kennedy said.
"What's more, the mentoring from experienced program managers will set us up for success."
Bree Wilkie, another PM Academy participant, echoed Kennedy's sentiments. "The initial Welcome Day was eye-opening. It gave us a glimpse of Raytheon Australia’s product lines and prepared us for our journey ahead as I assist the WTRSS AIR3024 team and Raytheon Australia overall."
Francesca Hamilton, a mentor within the program, was pleased with how quickly participants are learning new skills to manage projects better, thus saving time and resources. “As a mentor, I am fortunate to be able to develop trusted relationships that support and motivate our participants to grow and achieve their Project Management career goals,” Hamilton said. “Sharing knowledge and experience is rewarding for both mentors and mentees. It is inspiring to see participants build greater confidence in themselves and their abilities.”
Raytheon Australia is unwavering in its commitment to investing in professional development, with a key focus on nurturing its team of program and project managers. The nine-month PM Academy offers a blend of theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience. It ensures existing talent across the business is utilised, effectively identifying opportunities to upskill current PMs and build new ones from diverse backgrounds within Raytheon Australia.
Jim Gardener, Raytheon Australia's Chief of Operations, expressed his support for the initiative. "The program offers individuals a golden opportunity to advance their careers, drawing on the wisdom and experiences of our directors and senior PMs," he said.
Graduates of the PM Academy will be eligible for formal Project Management qualifications and certification through the Australian Institute of Project Management.
Ultimately, the PM Academy serves as a testament to Raytheon Australia's dedication to efficient and innovative solutions for defence programs, which bolsters the company’s role as a trusted capability partner to the Australian Defence Force.
